Trakt

Trakt is a service that helps you track, discover, and manage the movies and TV shows you watch. It’s kind of like a “watch diary” or “media tracker” that automatically or manually logs what you’re watching, gives recommendations, and connects you with others who have similar tastes.

Here’s a breakdown of what it does and how to use it 👇

    🎬 What Trakt Does

    1. Tracks your watching activity
      • You can “check in” manually when watching a show or movie.
      • Many media center apps (like Kodi, Plex, Jellyfin, Infuse, or Stremio) can sync automatically with Trakt, updating your watch history as you go.
    2. Manages your collection and watchlist
      • Add movies or shows you want to watch to your watchlist.
      • Keep track of what you own (physical or digital) in your collection.
    3. Gives stats and insights
      • See how much time you’ve spent watching, favorite genres, most-watched actors, and more.
    4. Social and discovery features
      • Follow friends, see what they’re watching, and get community ratings.
      • Get recommendations based on your viewing history.

    🧭 How to Use Trakt

    1. Create an Account

Go to trakt.tv and sign up (you can use email, or sign in with Google, Apple, etc.).

    2. Set Up Your Profile

    • Add your favorite genres, streaming services, and connect social accounts if you like.
    • Optionally set privacy settings (public, friends-only, or private activity).

    3. Connect Apps (Optional but Recommended)

    Trakt integrates with:

    • Plex, Kodi, Jellyfin, Emby, Infuse, Stremio, and others.
    • Once connected, these apps will automatically scrobble what you watch — meaning your Trakt profile updates whenever you watch something.

    4. Add to Your Watchlist

Search for any show or movie, then click “Add to Watchlist” or “Add to Collection.”

    5. Mark as Watched

    When you finish watching something:

    • Click “Mark as Watched” manually on the Trakt website or app, or
    • Let your connected player scrobble it automatically.

    6. Discover and Explore

    Use Trakt’s discovery section to:

    • Find trending or popular titles.
    • Get personalized recommendations.
    • Browse upcoming shows and movies.

    7. Use Third-Party Apps

There are several Trakt-compatible apps for different platforms:

    • Mobile: apps like CineTrak, SeriesGuide, TV Time, JustWatch, Moviebase.
    • Browser Extensions: like Traktflix (sync with Netflix viewing).

    ⚙️ Example Workflow

    1. You connect Trakt to Plex.
    2. You watch Breaking Bad on Plex.
    3. Trakt automatically marks the episode as watched.
    4. You visit Trakt later to see your watch stats or find something new to watch.

    2. Go to Add-ons → Download → Program Add-ons.

    4. Click Install.

📝 If you can’t find it, your Kodi version might not have it preinstalled — see Option 2 below.

🧭 Option 2: If You’re Using a Streaming Add-on (like Seren, The Crew, or Exodus Redux)

Most add-ons include Trakt integration directly inside their settings.

    Example (for Seren):

    1. Open Seren.
    2. Go to Tools → Open Settings Menu → Accounts.
    3. Under Trakt, click Authorize.
    4. A code will appear on-screen — keep Kodi open.

    2. Sign in (if prompted).
    3. Enter the code shown on your Kodi screen.
    4. Click Allow to give Kodi permission to access your Trakt account.

You’ll get a confirmation message both on the website and inside Kodi.

🔹 Step 4: Configure Sync Settings

    After it’s authorized:

    1. In Kodi, open the Trakt add-on settings.
    2. Choose what you want to sync:
      • Scrobble automatically (tracks what you watch)
      • Sync collection and watchlist
      • Mark watched items on Trakt when played in Kodi
      • Update Kodi library based on Trakt lists (optional)

    🔹 Step 5: Enjoy Auto Tracking 🎉

    From now on:

    • Whenever you watch something in Kodi, Trakt will automatically log it.
    • You can check your full watch history, stats, and recommendations on Trakt.tv.

    đź’ˇ Pro Tips

    • If you use multiple devices (e.g., a Fire Stick and PC), connect Trakt on all of them — your watch progress will stay in sync.
    • To back up your watched list or library, you can export it from Trakt anytime.
    • You can create custom Trakt lists and sync them to Kodi as playlists.
